Mykonos

Intro

If you dream of blue and white houses when you think of the Greek Islands, then Mykonos will definitely not disappoint. Especially the architecture in Mykonos Town is super pretty and instagrammable.

We visited Mykonos mid-September, when the weather was still warm and sunny but the crowds of tourists had already disappeared. Travelling off-season will make your Mykonos trip less expensive too, but still quite pricey compared to other destinations. We combined our Mykonos trip with a few days in Santorini.

8 Day itinerary

Day 1 - Agios Ioannis and Ornos

For the first leg of our Mykonos trip, we stayed in an apartment in Agios Ioannis. Our apartment was within walking distance from a beach and the terrace had amazing sea views. We took our rental car to Ornos town, where we had lunch and took some pictures with the blue and white houses. We finished our day watching the sunset at Agios Ioannis beach.

Day 2 - Mykonos Town and sunset at Scorpios

We spent the day wandering through the magical streets of Mykonos Town. The churches, stairs, coast line and windmills offer so many photo opportunities. And even though we only arrived at noon, the streets weren’t too crowded. It was the perfect opportunity to experiment with our tripod for the first time.Β

Check out my map (scroll up) to find where you can park your car for free when visiting Mykonos Town. Another day another sunset, this time we watched the sunset at Scorpios.

Day 3 - Hidden church and sunset at Mykonos Town

While driving around Mykonos island, you’ll come across quite a few hidden gems. We found a beautiful church next to the road between the south of the airport and Paradise Beach. We watched the sunset from the windmill at Mykonos Town.

Day 4 - Ano Mera, Kalafati Beach and sunset at Divounia

Ano Mera is another town on Mykonos island with beautiful blue and white architecture. Its highlight is the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani. After Ano Mera we drove a bit further down the island to Kalafati beach, from where we could see a mountain. We decided to watch the sunset from the mountain behind Divounia Beach.

Days 5 & 6 - Santorini

It’s really easy to take a ferry from Mykonos to Santorini and back. We left our rental car at the harbour parking in Mykonos, and rented another car in Santorini for 2.5 days. This worked out cheaper than taking the car on the ferry twice.

Day 7 - Mykonos part 2

We wanted to end our Mykonos trip in style, so we stayed at Panormos Village. As we only arrived back in Mykonos at the end of the afternoon, we just enjoyed our private infinity pool with sea views on our balcony.

Day 8 - Mykonos Town, Agios Sostis Beach, sunset at Armenistis Lighthouse

On our last day in Mykonos, we arrived in Mykonos Town for a photo shoot as early as 7:30 am. We had the full town to ourselves, and the sunrise light was perfect for our photo shoot. We also found a free and quiet beach at Agios Sostis, and watched the sunset at Armenistis Lighthouse.Β Β
