Sunbathing at the beach in Mykonos could be a rather expensive activity. Two sunbeds for a day easily cost over 100 euros.
For those who don’t want to spend big money every day for some sunbathing at the beach, I am sharing some Mykonos beaches where you can get your tan for free…

Agios Sostis beach
Agios Sostis is a beach in North Mykonos, and it is completely natural. No one tried to sell us a sunbed here, so you’re free to put your towels anywhere. Also, when we visited in September 2018, it was super quiet at the beach with almost no other visitors.
We walked into the sea and then climbed up the rocks you see in the right side of the pictures. The views from the rocks were amazing! We left our tripod on the rocks, climbed back to the beach and took a couple more pictures from above.
Agios Ioannis Beach
Agios Ioannis beach is in the South-West of Mykonos island, close to a town called Ornos. It is not as quiet as the Agios Sostis beach, but there is definitely space to put down your towel for free. If you prefer to pay for sunbeds, that’s also an option at Agios Ioannis.
If you stay long enough, you’ll also get to see the amazing sunset:
Kalafatis Beach
Ok, this is a bit of a cheeky one, because I’m not sure if the sunbeds in Kalafatis Beach are actually free. I also don’t know if you’re allowed to bring your own towels here for free. But when we arrived after 5pm, I think the beach had already “closed” and we could get the last bit of sun of the day for free.Β
I thought I’ll just mention it here as it might still be worth a try. Also, do you see that hill in the background? That’s Divounia Beach, and we went there to see the sunset. Both Kalafati Beach and Divounia Beach are in the South-East of Mykonos Island.
