Sightseeing spots in Bangkok
Sightseeing is our favourite way to explore a new city as a couple, so I am sharing the best sightseeing spots in Bangkok here.
The Grand Palace: at the heart of Bangkok
Start your romantic journey at the heart of Bangkok, the Grand Palace. This iconic landmark is a dazzling display of Thai architecture, featuring intricate details and vibrant colours.Β
As you explore the palace and its beautiful gardens, you’ll be transported to a world of royal elegance. Don’t miss the awe-inspiring Emerald Buddha, a symbol of Thailand’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
Scam alert: Don’t fall for the tuk-tuk driver trying to tell you that the Grand Palace is closed today – this is a well-known scam.
Tip: Visit early in the morning to avoid the crowds and savour the tranquil atmosphere.Β
Standing Buddha at Wat Intharawihan: Love in Tallest Form
Find serenity at Wat Intharawihan, home to the Standing Buddha, one of Bangkok’s tallest Buddha statues.Β Towering at 32 meters, the majestic gold figure exudes tranquillity, providing the perfect backdrop for a peaceful moment with your significant other.
Tip: Visit during late afternoon to witness the breath-taking sight of the golden Buddha bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun.
Wat Pho: Massage for the Soul
Experience the epitome of relaxation at Wat Pho, home to the famous Reclining Buddha. Take a romantic stroll through the temple grounds, and be sure to indulge in a traditional Thai massage, renowned for its therapeutic benefits.
Tip: Go for a massage at the on-site school to enjoy an authentic experience while supporting local practitioners.
Wat Arun: Sunset Splendor
As the sun sets over the Chao Phraya River, head to Wat Arun for a romantic experience. The temple’s stunning spires illuminated against the twilight sky create a magical ambiance. Climb to the top for panoramic views, making this a memorable moment to share with your loved one.
Tip: Capture the beauty of Wat Arun at dusk when the temple is illuminated, creating a magical ambiance.
Dress Code in Bangkok Temples: Modesty is Key
Before immersing yourselves in the spiritual wonders of Bangkok’s temples, it’s crucial to adhere to the local dress code. Both men and women should dress modestly, covering their shoulders and knees. Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics to combat the tropical heat. Remember to remove your shoes before entering temple buildings as a sign of respect.

Elevate your romantic experience at the iconic Lebua rooftop bar with a Hangovertini cocktail. Toast to your love amidst breath-taking panoramic views of the city. Even if you haven’t seen the Hangover movie, the Lebua Rooftop Bar is a must-do when in Bangkok.

Day Trips from Bangkok
Bangkok is surrounded by wonderful places to visit together as a couple. So if you have some time to spare in Bangkok, I highly recommend visiting these places on a day trip:
Amphawa Floating Market: A Romantic Riverside Retreat
Escape the city for a day trip to the charming Amphawa Floating Market. Cruise along the waterways, enjoy local delicacies, and immerse yourselves in the tranquil atmosphere.
Make sure to check the opening times of the floating markets before visiting Amphawa. We arrived after the markets had already closed for the day, but we were able to join a sunset tour instead, during which we saw fireflies from the boat.Β Β
It was a big hassle for us to get back to Bangkok in the evening though, so I highly recommend to join an organised tour to make sure everything runs smoothly on your romantic getaway.
Maek Long Train Market: Spectacle on the Tracks
Witness the awe-inspiring Maek Long Train Market, where vendors set up shop along the train tracks. Experience the thrill of the train passing by as you explore this unique market together.
There are only a few trains a day, so check out the timetable before making your way to the Maek Long Train Market. Make sure to catch an arriving train passing through the market for a unique experience.
Ayutthaya: Journey Through Time
Discover the historical wonders of Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore ancient temples, palaces, and statues, uncovering the rich history of Thailand.
We visited the Ayutthaya Historical Park, Wat Chaiwatthanaram, the reclining Buddha, Wat Yai Chai Mongkol and Wat Mahathat (the Buddha tree) during our day trip to Ayutthaya.
Pattaya Elephant Sanctuary: Connect with Nature
Embark on a heartwarming visit to the Pattaya Elephant Sanctuary. Witness the majestic creatures in their natural habitat and contribute to their well-being.
Conclusion
Bangkok, with its vibrant blend of culture, cuisine, and captivating experiences, provides the perfect backdrop for a romantic getaway. Whether you’re exploring historic temples, indulging in delicious street food, or embarking on day trips to nearby gems, Bangkok promises an unforgettable journey for couples. Plan your romantic escape to this enchanting city and create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
