As you can see in my map, the Christmas decorations are all within walking distance from each other, in the Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus, New Bond Street, Mayfair and Soho areas of London.

Pro-tip: These are all very popular shopping areas in London –Β especially during the Christmas period –Β so it is important to visit the Christmas Decorations photo spots well before the shops open to avoid the crowds during your romantic photo shoot.Β Β

The Christmas Decorations in London might differ from year to year, but the locations stay the same.

How we planned our photo shoot with the Christmas Decorations in London

We started our photo shoot at Covent Garden and walked our way to Fortnum & Mason, Piccadilly Arcade, New Bond Street, Mayfair and Carnaby street from there. We arrived in Covent Garden at 7:50 am and took our last picture in Carnaby Street at 10:16 am on a Sunday morning.Β

We chose to do our romantic photo shoot with the Christmas decorations on a Sunday morning because that’s when most of the shops open around 12 noon, whereas the rest of the week they open as early as 9 am. Bear in mind that the sunrise in London isn’t until 8 am in December, so you will want those few extra hours for your romantic photo shoot.

It was also a dark and cloudy morning when we did our photo shoot, which brings out the lights of the Christmas Decorations.

Covent Garden: A Winter Wonderland

Covent Garden, embellished with its iconic Christmas tree and festive market stalls, is a quintessential London spot for a romantic photo shoot.

The historic architecture, combined with the vibrant atmosphere, sets the stage for timeless and heart-warming photos. Stroll hand in hand among the festive lights and capture the joy of the season.

Covent Garden is our favourite place for romantic Christmas pictures, because there are just so many spots to choose from! The main Christmas display in 2023 was a cute Santa sleigh with presents, but there’s also the Apple Market and the giant Christmas tree on the Piazza.

Main Christmas Display in Covent Garden

The main Christmas display in Covent Garden changes every year, and in 2023 it was a cute Santa Sleigh with presents and giant jingle bells in the background:

Our strategy to visit Covent Garden by 8 am on a Sunday morning to avoid the crowds did backfire for the main display, because apparently the cleaners cover the display at night and we weren’t able to take pictures with it.Β

We had to come back after we took our last picture in Carnaby Street, and when we arrived around 11 am there was already an unorganised queue to take pictures with the Santa Sleigh. The pictures were worth the wait though!

You’ll see that the fairy lights looked so much better when it was still a bit dark outside before the sunrise. But unfortunately it wasn’t possible to take pictures with the sleigh because of the blue cover, so we had to take our pictures in broad daylight.

Giant Christmas Tree in the Piazza

The iconic Christmas tree in Covent Garden’s Piazza makes for a dreamy setting.

When we arrived just before sunrise at 8 am on a Sunday morning, not only did we have the Christmas tree to ourselves, it was also still dark enough to capture the Christmas tree lights.

The giant Christmas tree isn’t the only romantic photo spot at the Piazza. Just by walking around the market, you’ll find plenty of Christmassy photo spots. How about this one from the iconic London red phone booth?Β

Cartier in New Bond Street: A Touch of Elegance

New Bond Street exudes luxury, and Cartier’s Christmas decorations add an extra layer of opulence to this renowned shopping destination. The regal facade of Cartier’s shop decorated with sparkling lights provides a sophisticated backdrop for an elegant and romantic photoshoot.

Celebrate your love in style against the backdrop of Cartier’s exquisite Christmas decor. Our favourite angle is the one taken from the iconic red phone booth:

There are two different spots to take pictures with Annabel’s Christmas display from:Β

  • The left picture was taken from the street in front of Annabel’s
  • The right picture was taken with portrait mode from Berkely Square park – just across the street from Annabel’s

Taking a picture from Berkeley Square park is a good option for when the street in front of Annabel’s is just too busy with people and/or traffic.

How cool is it that Fortnum & Mason transformed their storefront windows into an advent calendar?!Β
