Ornos
Ornos is a town located at the South West of Mykonos island, and it’s only a ten minute drive away from Mykonos Town. Although I haven’t tried it, according to Google Maps it takes 40 minutes to walk to Ornos from Mykonos Town.
Ornos has lots of restaurants, beautiful architecture and a beach. It is one of the most crowded beaches on the island though, so not a great place if you’re looking to escape the crowds. The town itself is really quiet and has lots of beautiful spots:
We stayed a 15 minute walk away from Ornos at FOS SuitesΒ in Agios Ioannis. Our apartment was stunning and had the most amazing sunset views. Staying in an apartment at FOS Suites is a very budget friendly alternative compared to most hotels in Mykonos.Β
Ano Mera
Ano Mera is a town in the middle of Mykonos island, and is also a 15 minute car drive away from Mykonos Town. It is the second largest town on the island after Mykonos Town, but it is more traditional.
There are lots of restaurants in Ano Mera, and you’ll see plenty of locals having a meal on the terraces at the town’s square. There aren’t as many tourists in Ano Mera as in the rest of Mykonos island, which makes Ano Mera quite unique.Β
An absolute must-see in Ano Mera is the Panagia Tourliani monastery, which is probably also where you’ll find the most tourists in town:
Random spots next to the road
Sometimes just by driving around on Mykonos island, you’ll come across the most amazing spots. Luckily the traffic is really quiet most of the time, so you can just park your car and go out for a picture.Β
We came across this beautiful church on our way to Super Paradise Beach. I’m not sure what this church is called, but it can be found next to the road between Mykonos Airport and Super Paradise Beach.
