Our visit to Calico ghost town

Being in Calico really feels like having gone back in time to the Wild West. What was once a silver mining town is now a hidden gem in between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Take a trip with me to see what Calico looks like now…

In the middle of the desert are the remainders of what was once a very profitable silver mining town. Restaurants and shops now populate the old buildings, but even without buying anything, this is still an enjoyable town. Walking around Calico with its wooden buildings got me imagining how people used to live here:

I wonder if these buckets were all they had when the wooden buildings caught fire…

The best views over Calico town are from the stairs on the way to what is now the Old Miner’s cafe.

Welcome to class children – looks like schools were already invented in the old West. Seeing an old empty classroom like this did give me the chills a little bit.

The Calico & Odessa railroad is a remake of the original railway in Calico, although it now follows a different path. You can imagine that safety was not a priority in the silver mines of the Wild West.
