Main Prambanan temple
When we visited the Prambanan temple in December, it turned out to be a national school holiday in Indonesia. The main Prambanan temple was full of school kids, who seemed more interested in getting a selfie with tourists than in the temples.
We really enjoyed interacting and taking selfies with the locals, but it also took a lot of time. Therefore, I recommend visiting this place with a private driver, so you don’t need to rush back to your group tour. This will give you time to both interact with the locals and enjoy the temples. After all the selfies, we took some nice pictures for ourselves as well:
My favourite picture of the main temple was made from the entrance of the park, just behind the booths where we paid our tickets:
Candi Sewu
As the main temple was full of visitors, we were surprised to have the Candi Sewu temple all to ourselves. It was a bit of a walk to get there, as it is in the back of the temple complex. However, it was an enjoyable walk, and we passed a few other temples between Prambanan and Candi Sewu.Β
