Intro
The Algarve is on the south coast of Portugal and is famous for its wonderful beaches with rock formations. I was so surprised to see how many wonderful beaches one coast can have. Five days was not nearly enough to visit all of Algarve’s beaches, but I hope it is enough to inspire your next trip to the Algarve.

6 Day itinerary
We spent the first few days of our trip in Albufeira, which is only a 35 minute drive from Faro Airport. We rented a car at Faro airport and used it pretty much every day, so I highly recommend renting a car to save time when getting places. There was an oil crisis in the Algarve when we visited in 2019, so we had to plan in advance where and when to fill up our tank.
Day 1 - Albufeira, beaches and sunsets
Believe it or not, but we don’t spend our full holiday creating content for the blog and social media. On our first day in the Algarve, we pretty much laid down on the beach in Praia do Barril all day. Praia do Barril is supposed to be one of the quietest beaches in the Algarve, but it was pretty much packed when we visited on an August afternoon. After a day of sunbathing, we drove back towards Albufeira and watched the sunset in Praia da GalΓ©.
Day 2 - SUPping to the Benagil Caves
Day 2 started early as we had to be at Benagil Beach before 9 am. Going inside the Benagil Caves is one of the most popular things to do in the Algarve, so we had to be early in order to avoid the crowds. After our SUPping adventure in the Benagil Caves, we went for a stroll on Praia da Marinha. We then had a late lunch at Praia da Rocha before we went back to Albufeira.
Day 3 - Last day in Albufeira
We enjoyed the city of Albufeira on our last day. We went for a game of mini golf and spent time on the Praia dos Aveiros beach where we also watched the sunset. After sunset we went partying and drinking cocktails until the early morning hours.
Day 4 - Albufeira to Lagos
After checking out of our Albufeira hotel, we drove to Portimao which was on our way to our next hotel in Lagos. We spent some relaxing time on the Portimao beach and then went for a refreshing drink with seaviews before making our way to Lagos. Once we arrived in Lagos, we watched the sunset at the Praia dos Estudantes.Β
Day 5 - Praia dos Estudantes, Ponta da Piedade, Vila Nova de Milfontes
We went back to the Praia dos Estudantes and had a first glimpse of Ponta da Piedade before making the 1.5 hour drive to Vila Nova de Milfontes. After spending some time in this lovely town and its surroundings, we watched the sunset at the Cabo de Sao Vicente lighthouse.
Day 6 - Praia do Camilo, Ponta de Piedade and Praia Dona Ana
Our last morning in the Algarve was a morning well spent, as we watched the magical sunrise at the Praia do Camilo beach at 7 am. We then went back to Ponta de Piedade while it was still early morning, and still had time to sunbathe at Praia Dona Ana before check out.Β
