Get to know me in 5 questions:
1. Who is Yvettheworld?
My name is Yvette Oldenburger, and I am the woman behind this blog βYvettheworldβ and the author of my self-published book βTravel Photography for Couplesβ. I recently also added Travel Planners and Travel Journals to my collection, which I designed especially for travel couples.Β
It is my dream to visit every country in the world, so I started this blog to share my travel experiences and to inspire other travel couples to go see the world together. I travel with my partner Jordi while using my annual leave from work, hence my motto βExploring the world together, one trip at a timeβ.
2. What is your travel story so far?
Our travel story started on our first trip together in Menorca (Spain) back in July 2013, where Jordi asked me to be his girlfriend. Fast forward to summer 2021, and he asked me to be his wife on top of the cliffs in Zakynthos (Greece), while overlooking the Shipwreck Beach. On 23 July 2023 we had a destination wedding in Menorca – exactly 10 years after we got together as a couple.
We have visited many countries together since July 2013, including countries in the USA, South East Asia, Africa and Europe.Β
As a travel couple, we enjoy experiencing new cultures, seeing the famous sights while trying to avoid the crowds, discovering hidden gems and spending time in romantic accommodations. Oh, and did I tell you we love to take pictures together in all the places weβve been?
Because of the way we travel, you will find a lot of content on my blog about:
3. Do you have any regrets about travelling as a couple?
While we love to travel the world together, the one thing we really regret about our travels is that we didnβt learn to take good pictures of ourselves in all the places weβve been sooner.Β
We started travelling together in 2013, but we didnβt learn about travel couple photography until September 2018. Thatβs 5 years of relying on selfies and strangersβ photography skills, which almost never resulted in the pictures we wanted.
I donβt want fellow travel couples to have the same regrets, so thatβs why I self-published my book βTravel Photography for Couplesβ. In this book, Iβm teaching everything we wish we knew about taking our own pictures as a travel couple when we first started travelling together.
4. What is your most memorable trip?
My most memorable trip was to Zakynthos, because itβs not only the trip that Jordi organised as a surprise for my 30th birthday, but itβs also the trip where he asked me to be his wife!Β
Another special trip for me was Indonesia, because thatβs the country where my grandmother was born and raised. She would always tell me about Indonesia when I was a little girl living in The Netherlands, so it was really special to finally see βherβ country with my own eyes.
5. What's next on your bucket list?
Like I said, it is my dream to visit every country in the world. So my bucket list is as long as the list of countries in the world that I havenβt visited yet.Β
But destinations that are especially high on my bucket list are: Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South America.
